Michael Alfano

For over fifteen years, Michael Alfano has been creating portraits and surreal figurative-based sculpture that is philosophical and evocative. Major influences are Salvador Dali, Jo Davidson, and Jean-Antione Houdon, as well as Buddhist, Taoist, and Sufi philosophy and literature.
His public art dots the East Coast and garnered the headline Sculptor with a Social Conscience. Portrait commissions Michael has completed include Nobel Peace Laureate and former Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Indian Parliament Member O. P. Jindal for the Jindal Group. His bust of Senator Edward Kennedy is at Senator John Kerrys office in Washington DC.
Michael exhibits at galleries from Cape Cod to Bostons Newbury St. and the Berkshires, and from New Yorks Fifth Avenue to Asheville NC. Private collections from around the world include his limited editions, such as the Buhl Collection in Manhattan. His work has earned over 50 awards at art shows, including the Cambridge Art Associations Sculptor of the Year. He is an elected fellow with the American Artists Professional League, and was selected for the Copley Societys portrait artist registry.
Michael first studied at the Art Students League of New York, with an emphasis on life-size sculpture from the model. His formal education continued at Boston University and was augmented by internships with several prominent sculptors. He continues studying with master artists, always seeking to expand his range. A native of New York, Michael now lives and works in Hopkinton, MA.
